Celebrating the WestSM: Submission Guidelines

For articles to be published online and/or in print

Celebrating the WestSM magazine invites freelance nonfiction submissions on any subject related to the culture of the American West, historical or current. We will consider poetry. Issue themes are usually announced well in advance, and articles related to upcoming themes are appreciated.

Articles (500 to 3,000 words)

For feature articles, a length of 1,000-1,200 words is preferred.

Submission format and process

  • Manuscripts should be typed and submitted online, in a clear and readable font. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of material.
  • Submit file as text-only, doc, docx, or PDF via our Box.com upload link.
  • Our editors read submissions blind. Do not include your name in the article document or filename.
